Spellings – 13.3.17

The endings –tion, –sion, –ssion and –cian
There are different ways of spelling the shun sound –tion, –sion, –ssion, and –cian.
The most common way of spelling the shun sound is –tion. We use this when the root word ends in t or te.
For root words ending in –ss or –mit spell the shun sound –ssion.
If the root word ends in te like complete drop the final e and then add –ion
For root words ending in d or a consonant then se , spell the shun sound –sion. If the root word ends in d like extend, drop the d before adding –sion

  7. election
  8. describe

    Thank you so much for the new strategy to help us improve Evie’s spelling. It is very simple but has the potential to make a huge difference. We have worked on the spelling test words and the ‘post it’ words this this weekend. Hopefully you should start to see an improvement soon.

      No problem it is something that Evie and I came up with together after she said her nan had offered to help. Seems like a good idea. I loved it when she used her time to practice without even being asked! 🙂
